HELM Commercial

A commercial partner to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, now running its parking and pre-book analytics on an automated Microsoft Fabric lakehouse.

The challenge

Where they started

HELM Commercial analyses parking bookings, revenue and occupancy at Charlotte Douglas International Airport using data from the AeroParker booking platform. The AeroParker API only accepts calls from a whitelisted static IP, so extraction ran manually each day from a single laptop on a home connection, followed by local Jupyter notebooks and a Power BI refresh. Every report depended on one person and one machine, with no scheduling, monitoring or disaster recovery, and no consistent definition of the metrics behind the reporting.

What we did

The platform we built

We migrated the platform to Microsoft Fabric on HELM's existing capacity, routing API traffic through a vNET Data Gateway and NAT Gateway to give Fabric a fixed, whitelisted outbound IP. Data Factory pipelines retrieve credentials from Azure Key Vault, authenticate with JWT tokens and pull daily increments from the AeroParker API under watermark control, merging them into a Bronze Delta table alongside a one-off historical load that reconciled schema changes across years of CSV exports. Silver and Gold layers are built as materialised lake views that hash identifiers, apply facility and product mappings, and calculate net revenue, stay duration and booking lead time. We used BEAM and a bus matrix to define the business events and conformed dimensions, and connected the Power BI pre-book dashboard to the Gold layer through Direct Lake.
